Mission

The World Chiropractic Alliance's Council on Women’s' Health is a non-profit council functioning at a national and international level. The Council is dedicated to supporting women of the world attain health and wellness through the application of the science, art, and philosophy of chiropractic.

Projects

bulletAs an NGO (Non-Governmental Organization) affiliated with the United Nations Department of Public Information, the WCA is in an ideal position to form productive partnerships with other non-governmental, governmental, and private sector organizations and foundations to achieve its mission.
bulletWith the input of its board and members, the Council hopes to develop, organize and coordinate a variety of programs to further its mission, such as:
bulletWorking with other organizations to ensure the equal access of all women to complete health care, including chiropractic subluxation correction.
bulletOrganizing chiropractic "missions" to provide free services to low-income women -- including women living in shelters, in developing nations, or those for whom chiropractic would not otherwise be available;
bulletCompiling and disseminating information on specific women’s health issues, including exposing the risks of common medical treatments and the benefits of natural, drug-free chiropractic alternatives;
bulletPromoting chiropractic research into the effects of subluxation on women’s health;
bulletEncouraging and empowering women to take responsibility for their health and the health of their children, including issues relating to mandatory vaccines and other medical treatments.

 Leadership

Chair:  Madeline Behrendt, D.C.

Dr. Madeline BehrendtDr. Behrendt is an author and speaker committed to connecting women to chiropractic and chiropractors to women. She has contributed to numerous print and electronic chiropractic publications, including the Journal of Vertebral Subluxation Research , The Chiropractic Journal, and planetchiropractic.com. In addition, Dr. Behrendt was part of a chiropractic panel that presented at the United Nations Conference on Women in 2001, and has appeared on WebMd. Dr. Behrendt is also the Associate Editor of The Journal of Vertebral Subluxation Research, specializing in developing cases that document the impact of subluxation correction in women's health.

 

Vice-Chair: Leslie Bedell, D.C.Dr. Leslie Bedell

Dr. Bedell, a 1984 Summa Cum Laude graduate of Palmer, runs a family practice in North Bend, Washington State. She brings a background of passion and experience to the Council, including working with support groups for women and teenage girls as part of a domestic violence prevention and recovery program. Dr. Bedell serves on the Board for Children's Services of Sno-Valley, a center offering parenting skills, childcare and classes for needy families. She is also on the Board of the Snoqualmie Valley Community Network, which provides programs and services to families at risk for substance abuse, domestic violence and juvenile delinquency. She is actively involved with chiropractic in South Africa after 2 years of presenting to their annual Congress and mentoring chiropractic students.

 

Secretary/Treasurer: Tammy Kaminski, D.C.

Dr. Tammy Kaminski received her chiropractic degree from the New York Chiropractic College, New York in 1985 and her undergraduate studies from the University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA.   She is a Pennsylvania native but has lived and practiced in New Jersey since 1986.  Her practice is located in West Caldwell, New Jersey. It is family wellness based with an emphasis on guiding the practice members to live and experience an improved Quality of Life.  Dr. Kaminski is a certified Network Spinal Analysis (NSA) practitioner. 

Dr. Kaminski is a member Association for Network Care (ANC), and contributes to local publications including The Garden State Woman Magazine. Dr. Kaminski is certified in Network Spinal Analysis Parts I & II. 

Board Member:  Maxine McMullen, D.C.

Dr. McMullen is a distinguished member of the World Chiropractic Alliance and the Vice-President of the International Association of Chiropractors. She serves as the Assistant to the President and  Professor of Diagnosis of Palmer College.

Chairwoman Emeritus: Veronica Gutierrez, D.C.

Dr. Veronica Gutierrez, a 1963 graduate of Palmer College, has been a member of the World Chiropractic Alliance since 1991, a contributing editor to The Chiropractic Journal, chair of the WCA Health Care Reform Committee and recipient of the WCA's 1994 "Outstanding Service Award."  She was the only chiropractor to serve on the special White House Commission on Complementary and Alternative Medicine. A board advisor for the International Spinal Health Institute since 1997, she was a member of the Governor-elect's Health Care Advisory Committee in the state of Washington, and among the first D.C.s to practice and teach at the Regional Center for Chiropractic/Spine in Vladivostok, Russia.

Membership

The Council on Women’s Health is open to all doctors of chiropractic with an interest in women’s health. Membership is free for WCA members in good standing.   If you are already a member of the WCA,  you may join the Council on Women's Health via e-mail. Please provide your full name, address, phone number and e-mail address.

If you are not already a member of the WCA, you may use the online application form to join, then contact the Council to join.
