WCA to host Humanitarian forum

The World Chiropractic Alliance (WCA) will host the first annual World Chiropractic Humanitarian Forum on Saturday, October 2, 2010 in Long Branch, NJ. The event will be held in conjunction with the New Beginnings 20th Anniversary Chiropractic Celebration at the Ocean Place Resort and Spa.
Moderated by Peter H. Morgan, DC, chairman of the WCA Council on Humanitarian Efforts, participants will discuss chiropractic humanitarian efforts taking place around the world. The WCA is seeking information on these diverse efforts in hopes of finding ways to promote and support various organizations involved in such missions.
"The forum will be a strategic planning session," Dr. Morgan explained. "We'd like to explore ways to coordinate many of these efforts and build a network of mutual support throughout the chiropractic community. As a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) affiliated with the United Nations Department of Public Information, the WCA is in a unique position to communicate with the United Nations regarding chiropractic humanitarian work."
Morgan noted that the WCA also hopes to work toward fulfilling the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDG) to end poverty and hunger, provide universal education, foster gender equality, ensure child and maternal health, combat HIV/AIDS, create environmental sustainability, and produce global partnerships by 2015.
"Our goal is to enlighten the United Nations about chiropractic," Morgan added.
Timothy Merrick, DC, the WCA NGO representative, will be a featured speaker at the forum. Dr. Merrick currently attends weekly briefings at the UN headquarters in New York and meets with other NGOs from around the world and shares information about chiropractic and the role chiropractors can play in addressing health concerns in developing nations as well as in first-world countries.
In addition, representatives from several chiropractic mission groups -- including Mission Life International, Mission-Chiropractic, Spinal Missions, ChiroMission, The Best Mission Trip Ever, AdJust World, and Third World Benefit -- will provide presentations highlighting the mission of their trips, locations, and vision for the future.
In addition to publicizing the groups' missions in The Chiropractic Journal and online, the WCA hopes to provide scholarships to students wishing to participate in mission, provide other support to humanitarian efforts, coordinate with other NGOs in United Nations work, raise awareness of chiropractic charitable work through the global health care community, and provide information and resources to groups and individuals engaged in such work.
The inaugural forum is being held during the New Beginnings 20th Anniversary Chiropractic Celebration. Registration for the forum is free and New Beginnings has offered to permit participants to take part in other Saturday offerings (including philosophy talks, beach bonfire celebration, and presentations by special guests) at no charge.
"We want to thank New Beginnings for its generosity in allowing the WCA to hold its forum during this exciting program, and for extending such a warm welcome to our participating doctors," stated Morgan. "We know that many of those who attend the WCA Humanitarian Forum will also want to register for the full New Beginnings program and enjoy hearing its incredible lineup of speakers, including Drs. Reggie Gold, Arno Burnier, Chuck Ribley, Jeanne Ohm, Liam Schubel, Bob Braile, Skip George, Tony Demarco, Phyllis Frase, Billy DeMoss, Karen Hayhurst, Jim Dubel, and many others."
