Self magazine publishes chiropractic hit piece; WCA organizes grass-roots response effort

Self Magazine -- a publication read by more than 5 million readers -- has published an article titled "A deadly twist," with a "teaser" paragraph that warns "Chiropractors are causing strokes in young, healthy women. Read this before your next appointment."

The piece is filled with the same mis-information and scare tactics that we've seen directed against our profession for years.

The World Chiropractic Alliance sent a strongly-worded response, citing accurate scientific evidence and quickly organized a massive grass-roots letter writing campaign to  demonstrate to the magazine's editorial staff that the chiropractic community – doctors, staff, patients and supporters – will not tolerate such anti-chiropractic bias.

An e-mail "Alert" sent to thousands of DCs worldwide included a "generic" letter to use as a model in writing personal response.  Doctors are encouraged to incorporate as many of the bullet points as possible and personalize the responses as much as they can.

The letter can be sent three ways:

By email to:

Kimberly Kelleher, Publisher -- Kimberly_Kelleher@self.com
and Lucy Danziger, Editor-in-Chief – letters@self.com

By postal mail to:

Lucy Danziger, Editor-in-Chief
Self Magazine
4 Times Square
New York, NY 10036

By fax to:

 Lucy Danziger, Editor-in-Chief -- (212) 286-6174

In addition, doctors should visit the Self magazine website and add their voices to the online comments section
