Position Paper on Women's HealthIt is the position of the World Chiropractic Alliance that chiropractic has specific applications for, and offers multiple benefits to, girls and women of all ages and should be an integral part of their wellness care. In recent years, the medical and pharmaceutical industries have increasingly attempted to medicalize normal female body functions -- such as menstruation and menopause. This has resulted in a major source of revenue from medical tests, treatments and drugs, yet has done little to solve women's health problems. Although more than 300 drugs specifically targeted at women are currently being researched, there is little or no attention being focused on health care methods which do not involve drugs, surgery or other medical interventions. The WCA therefore advocates increased public education and research relating to the effects of vertebral subluxation in women, including possible effects of subluxations on menses, fertility, stress, critical thinking and vitality. In addition, the WCA is aware of the significant problems that exist relating to women's access to appropriate health care throughout the world, particularly in developing nations and among disadvantaged populations everywhere. In an effort to address these issues in a positive and constructive manner, the World Chiropractic Alliance has formed the Council on Women’s Health, a non-profit council functioning at national and international levels. The Council is dedicated to helping women attain health and wellness through the application of the science, art, and philosophy of chiropractic. The mission of the Council is to develop, organize and coordinate a variety of activities, among them:
As an NGO (Non-Governmental Organization) affiliated with the United Nations Department of Public Information, the WCA will form partnerships with other non-governmental, governmental, and private sector organizations and foundations to achieve these goals.
