Buying into philosophy
by Timothy Feuling
Chiropractic is not only the most successful healing art available to the
consumer, but the only health care profession based on philosophical tenets.
When you became a chiropractor, depending on the school you attended, you were
taught a form of chiropractic philosophy.
In my opinion, chiropractic schools don't emphasize enough chiropractic
philosophy. Why? Do they lack the knowledge, conviction or confidence in chiropractic's
deep philosophical truths? Why do they feel chiropractic should be based on science only?
Medicine is the one of the leading causes of death in the world. According to
David Eddy, M.D., Ph.D., "Only 15% of all medical procedures are scientifically
validated."
These chiropractic colleges deficient in philosophy would like the respect of
their medical peers. They are trying to win the approval of society by positioning
chiropractic as the first choice for neck and low-back pain.
If patients present symptoms, conditions or diseases, many chiropractic schools
emphasize referral to a medical doctor.
Too few chiropractic colleges teach the philosophy, making it more difficult for
a graduate to succeed in practice.
B.J. Palmer's "I AM A chiroPRACTOR" is a great introductory to
chiropractic Philosophy:
I am a chiropractor working with the sciences of the universe by turning on the
life in man thru the art of the adjustment. I do not prescribe, treat or diagnose
conditions. I use only my hands. I work with that "mysterious something" which
created my body from two cells.
At a time prescribed eons ago I was set in this body to experience. That cosmic
power which created me, which also moves the seas, rotates the earth, directs the heavens,
gives life, takes it away, is everything. And that power which set the universe in motion
and created me did not abandon me when I became free of the security of my earthly
mother's womb. It is still with me and protects me as it moves all forms toward their
final predestined goal.
It is not mine to educatedly ask "why" or "where", but to
Innately live; and live to help my fellow creatures. And with this chiropractic adjustment
I use all powers and energies moving this universe, to allow my fellow creatures the
chance to live, free of dis-ease.
I wish nothing in return, only the chance to GIVE. I give with the only thing I
have, LOVE. And I love all by removing that which interferes with 100% of LIFE. I do not
look to others for direction, I look within. I am a perfect expression of God living 24
hours each day for others-I am a PRINCIPLED chiroPRACTOR.
We all have choices to make; how to communicate chiropractic, what political
organization to support, what type of patient educational material you distribute, and
what companies you do business with. Your philosophy of life will have an effect on the
outcome of your decision.
When I begin to explain the CBS Malpractice Program with some doctors, they stop
me and tell me their not interested in philosophy. They are just calling for a quote. It
reminds me of what Ayn Rand said; "The men who are not interested in philosophy need
it most urgently; they are most helplessly in its power."
We all have a philosophy that directs our lives. Many people are unaware of this
and are frustrated when things happen to them that seem out of their control. When
individuals understands their philosophy, they are more able to direct their lives and
they become more effective at what they do.
Whether you are buying malpractice insurance or choosing which political
organization to support, you are influenced by your philosophical views on life.
Those doctors who are conscious of cause and effect realize their money is a
reflection of their energy. When you send your money (energy) to a company with different
philosophical views, this becomes a huge contradiction in your life. This will always lead
to confusion, incongruity and destruction.
Over 5,000 chiropractors have made a philosophical choice to support
chiropractic Benefit Services (CBS) Malpractice Insurance Program. They send CBS their
money because they believe in the importance of generating evidence- and subluxation-based
guidelines (CCP), subluxation-based Quality of Life and Immune Study research, lobbying on
a consistent basis for the right to practice chiropractic outside of a MERCY practice
objective and the adjusting of adults and children, with or without symptoms.
In return, CBS protects you with the broadest coverage available.
Evaluate your current buying decisions. Were they based on a conscious
philosophy? If not, ask yourself if you are supporting your own beliefs?
We have many doctors who have purchased their malpractice through CBS who pay
more than they might with another company, because they enjoy the freedom and peace of
mind derived from the satisfaction of knowing they did the right thing. Please call me and
I will help you do everything I can to make the right decision.
As Ayn Rand also said: "It does not matter that only a few in each
generation will grasp and achieve the full reality of man's proper stature -- and that the
rest will betray it. It is those few that move the world and give life its meaning -- and
it is those few that I have always sought to address."
