Dr. Rutherford, 1913-2000

Leonard W. Rutherford, D.C., 87, a chiropractic pioneer who discovered chiropractic after severely injuring himself as a child, died on Mar. 9.

Rutherford, born in Alberta, Canada moved to Salem, Ore. when he was ten and was taken to a local chiropractor, Dr. Scott, after numerous medical treatments were unable to help him recover from an accident. His swift recover after receiving chiropractic care convinced him that he had found his life's work.

B.J. once instructed him, "to never compromise the Principles," and he followed that advice through his long and illustrious career.

Rutherford is survived by his wife, Agnes Rutherford, D.C., four children and several grandchildren, one of which, Leonard G. Rutherford, D.C., is a practicing Chiropractor in Salem, Oregon.
