Fibromyalgia and Chronic
Fatigue Syndrome
Submitted by Posture Pro, Inc.
The subject of fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is a long and
very complex one. Previously in The Chiropractic Journal, we were able to touch on only a
few, yet important, topics associated with these conditions.
The information that Posture Pro, Inc. has received from Mike Jones, B.A., M.T.
has been very detailed and enlightening. I am sure many of you, as chiropractors, have had
patients with fibromyalgia and CFS and have found their treatment to be an even bigger
challenge than you may have thought.
Fibromyalgia and CFS remain two of the most difficult conditions to treat. If
the cause of the illness is unknown, that leaves only the symptoms to treat. If the cause
of the illness is unknown, that leaves only the symptoms to treat and treating only the
symptoms will allow the condition to progress.
As Mike Jones, B.C., M.T. and Glenn Rexroad, M.T. state: "The key to
resolving any condition lies in understanding what causes it."
Earlier, we explained that:
--- Proper cervical curve plays a major role in treating fibromyalgia and CFS
--- One must have full range of motion of each vertebrae and a proper cervical
curve to allow the function of the body to be normal
--- When you work with the cervical spine, it can produce results far from the
site.
--- Having the ability to determine and treat soft tissue dysfunction is very
important. As stated by Dr. Sandweiss, "high velocity and sudden acceleration forces
cause microscopic injuries in the spindle cells and golgi tendon mechanisms. These
mechanisms when injured possess the capacity to feed back garbled messages to the nervous
system so that the person is left with a short circuit. Until this pathological loop is
interrupted, muscles will remain spastic and information to and from the nervous system
will be inaccurate"
--- JHIST (Jones Hyperextension Intersegmental Technique) was developed to
relieve cervical compression, restore the proper cervical curve, restore individual
cervical vertebral movement, put the body back into structural homeostasis and increase
mechanoreception (afferent signals).
--- There is not going to be one magical answer or therapy.
--- Posture Pump is one of the most effective tools in helping to reinforce the
proper lordotic curve as well as influencing disc hydration, joint mobility and increasing
range of motion. With it, you can help your patients reinforce their cervical lordotic
curve now and save them years of misery.
Below are a few testimonials from patients:
From Sherry R. ...
"In January of 1996, I started neuromuscular therapy with Mike Jones. I had
so much pain over my entire body, that in a 24 hour period, I spent the majority in the
bath tub. I had such a hard time doing day to day routines. I was fatigued all the time. I
was lucky if I could make it through the work week. By the time the weekend came I was too
tired to even go out. I would get an average of 15-18 hours of sleep per day.
"I had spent the last three years searching for answers among conventional
doctors who could not figure out what was wrong. I even went to the Cleveland Clinic,
where they took a series of tests. Finally they told me there was nothing wrong and that I
was making up all the pain to get the attention of my family. Soon after I was diagnosed
with fibromyalgia and was told that this was incurable. I was very frustrated and had
many, many medical bills!
"Mike Jones started me on the JHIST method, which included neuromuscular
massage and neuromuscular exercises designed to facilitate the cervical curve and improve
proper signals to the thalamus. Had I gone to a massotherapist that did not specialize in
neuromuscular therapy and the advanced techniques Mike Jones discovered, I feel I would
still be in terrible pain.
"I would like to thank Mike Jones, B.A., NMT for all the time and hard work
he has put into making me well. I now live the life of a normal 22 year old female. I
recently became engaged, a commitment I would not have entered had I not had resolution of
my fibromyalgia. Thanks again Mike!"
From Phillip S. Tepperberg, D.C., inventor of Tepper Wedge and Stretcho System
...
"I would like to thank you for a great invention. Your cervical Posture
Pump has given me much needed relief from an acute injury that I sustained catching a 285
lb. patient who lost his balance turning over on my table.
"My shoulder girdle and neck were wrenched so hard that it
sprained/strained the neuromuscular cervical components into an antalgic position losing
the cervical lordosis and significantly closing several IVFs.
"The relief from the radiating radicular pain was almost immediate with the
Posture Pump and the following treatments have had great results in restoring the normal
cervical lordosis allowing this insult to heal and heal correctly.
"In the last 20 years I have used most of the portable traction units out
there, but none with this result. The simple ideas are usually the best.
"Thank you again, just thought I would let you know how much I appreciate
it.
"I now have a Posture Pump in each treatment room!"
From Leonard K., M.D., FACS ...
"I am an Orthopedic Surgeon who has been in private practice for 26 years.
Over the years I have always felt that Massotherapy has been a very effective adjunctive
therapy for the musculoskeletal patients that we see in our office. Several years ago Mike
Jones introduced me to the benefits of Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT), and I now strongly
believe that NMT adds an additional dimension in caring for many musculoskeletal patients.
"Mike has postulated that fibromyalgia is caused by pain signals
overwhelming the central nervous system and that the proper afferent signals are not
getting through to the brain. By restoring the proper cervical curve and alleviating nerve
compression in the neck, he feels that more of the good afferent signals can get through
to the brain, and that when this occurs, the fibromyalgia disappears.
"I have sent a number of patients to Mike Jones who I felt were suffering
from either right or left sided compression in the cervical area. These patients for the
most part had failed one or more trials of conventional therapy. Using the JHIST method,
Mike has been able to get most of these patients back to a functional level and I have
been very impressed with his results.
"The proof of a treatment is whether or not it works...and from what I have
observed Mike's treatment does work."
In closing, we realize the importance of the cervical curve and know that
chiropractic is the first line of defense. If not you, then who? The buck stops here!
