Strategic excitement

by Dr. Eric Plasker

Have you ever noticed how every office seems to have somebody on staff who walks in with a bright smile and seems to be bubbling with enthusiasm about life and their job each and every day? Sometimes these people can be the brunt of office jokes, but deep down inside we are all probably secretly wishing we had a similar attitude and reserve of energy from which we could draw upon.

In fact, if we ever did have that kind of energy level, it was probably when we just got out of chiropractic college and felt like we were ready to take on the world. While that may seem like a lifetime ago, I promise you that it's not impossible to reconnect with and replenish that source of drive and focus you once had through utilizing something I like to call "strategic excitement."

Strategic excitement allows you to operate with a consistent, balanced type of energetic output that will keep you from hitting that "wall" and burning out too quickly. It is about working with total focus, passion and excitement during the times where that type of commitment is necessary and sitting back and relaxing when it's not.

Practicing strategic excitement will help you to enjoy a passionate chiropractic career over your lifetime while also giving you the ability to create results that are extraordinary including lots of "down time" with your family and friends.

At the core of strategic excitement is a basic understanding of the concept of "chiropractic time." It's the triune of time (prime, prep and play) that will enable you to create maximum results while staying highly efficient and organized. It will also give you the ability to enjoy the benefits they provide such as increased vacation time and great quality time off to enjoy your life and your family.

Scheduling prime chiropractic times means you are allocating time that is dedicated to producing results. This could include adjusting patients, conducting new patient exams, holding health fairs or corporate talks. Keeping focused and getting 100% patient-centered in delivering the best quality care possible will enable these prime times to consistently and steadily grow allowing you to produce twice the results in half the time while still enjoying more free time with your family.

Chiropractic prep time is about maintaining a superior level of organization and efficiency that will prepare you -- through delegating and planning -- for high performance during your prime times. This can be achieved through results-oriented polices, procedures and systems that will allow your practice to grow just by the nature of the way you do business.

It's about taking the things that you are not good at or prefer not to do and putting them in the hands of a team member who is and using highly efficient policies and procedures to support your office. While prime chiropractic time focus is on creating results, prep time focus is on preparing for those results.

Finally, there is play time, with the obvious purpose of enabling you to enjoy your life outside of the office. In one of our recent seminars, one of our members stood up and shared with everyone how excited she was to have just purchased a cozy little cabin by a lake where she could enjoy nature, rest and recharge on the weekends.

She confessed that until she began implementing chiropractic time, she had not had a vacation in six years. She was able to achieve this life-long dream of owning a second recreational home because the production in her practice dramatically increased creating an equally dramatic improvement in the quality of her life.

Turn your excitement and passion about your practice to full throttle during prime chiropractic time, balance it during prep time and turn it off completely during play time. Start applying the concepts of strategic excitement, and you'll be on your way to enjoying a passionate chiropractic career -- and an extraordinary life.
