In my experience, presenting public health talks outside of the office
can be the easiest, most cost-effective, and most time efficient way of
rocketing your practice to meteoric heights.
For your practice to grow rapidly, however, you must find people to
attend your talks. Obviously, if there are no people, your practice will
not grow. You will soon say to yourself, "Why am I even putting out
so much energy to teach people when there is hardly anyone attending my
seminars?" If this is happening to you, then I can almost guarantee
that you are NOT speaking where there is already an active and existing
audience.
Most likely, you have been trying to create your own seminars in your
town. Creating your own seminars can be done, but it takes a person with a
very strong and determined personality. Why hurt and ruin your confidence
by trying to create an audience virtually out of thin air? From personal
experience, this is probably the most difficult task I had ever given to
myself -- creating my own seminars in my local town. I have found a much
easier way to create that ready-made audience.
As I said before, creating your own seminars to give and share with the
non-clientele can be done, but it is tough! You can advertise in a local
paper or frequent the local nutrition store (or any alliance you have
created a relationship with that has agreed to help you with your vision)
to display a special poster seen by the local patrons, all to have a
measly three people show up at your office or wherever you are presenting
your seminar. How many times do you think this situation would have to
happen before you would throw your hands up and say, "There has to be
a better way to teach people." or, "I quit"?
If you're like me, and do not want to put endless energy into finding
and creating your own audience, then why not make it your business to just
give talks that have ready made audiences?
As the U.S. economy is unfortunately still in limbo, there is much
concern in corporate America. As benefits and wages are being cut and
slashed (compared to the big dollars that were being paid out two or three
years ago), corporations, associations, and organizations are willing to
do just about anything to help out their fellow employees. There's never
been a better time for the chiropractic profession to step up to the plate
and help these human resource and wellness providers looking to help out
their fellow employers in these stressed out half-filled offices.
With all the possible stress because of monthly rumors about cutbacks
in certain fields of business, why not help people focus on something positive,
like their health?
Because most of the literature I read pertains to health and healing, I
am a novice when it comes to many subjects in the business or corporate
world. It would make sense that if I were interested in learning more
about let's say investments, I would attend a seminar put on by someone
who has done nothing but focus his/her efforts in that field. If I felt
comfortable with that person I was learning from and wanted to invest for
my future, I would bring this person into a working win/win relationship.
It would NOT make sense for me to read a book or two in a month's time
and then decide that I have enough knowledge to begin investing for my
future. First of all, I would still have a practice to run, which should
be my main focus. Second, people working in the field of finance have up
to a decade of schooling. How could I think I could actually compare
myself to the knowledge of these professionals?
People in the business world look to chiropractors in exactly the same
way. They look to us as possible coaches for their health lifestyle when
they become interested in finally getting their act together. Remember,
these people have focused mostly on advancing in their field of expertise
for many years. After years of neglecting themselves, you step into their
workplace, and make it very convenient for them to attend one of your
advertised workshops.
These people in business KNOW that reading a couple of books will not
turn their health around and most don't even have the time to educate
themselves on health issues. What they want is a person to anchor onto who
lives and teaches health and healing. These people are seeking an
individual committed to teaching people all about living a healthy
lifestyle.
From one corporation to another, week in and week out, I am having
people come up to me after my workshops and tell me just this.
They have told me that after 10-to-15 years of neglecting their health,
they need to really focus on themselves so they can be healthy when they
are in their 70s and beyond. I can tell you that the person who delivers
the message most likely will become that person's anchor and coach for
many years to come.
No longer will you have to create your own seminars if you decide to
present your talks in the corporate world. There are many people in your
town who are waiting for their anchor. You just have to find that
audience, and there are active audiences all over waiting for you to help
guide them. It's simply a matter of locating these existing organizations
and letting them know you're available.
Next time, I plan on discussing how to present, what to
say, and why just one chiropractic health talk cannot -- and
usually does not -- change an entire person's belief system. I will also
share why a system of three, one-hour educational programs needs to be
given to any organization when attempting to move people away from
allopathic sick care and onto chiropractic wellness care.
