Our profession is sitting at the threshold of dominance in health care
within our society and soon after worldwide, if we are ready and willing
to take the right steps to get there.
In the past two decades, we have seen some great leaders step up to the
plate and take some steps that were necessary at the time. There have been
a multitude of seminars designed to educate and motivate chiropractors so
that they will go back to their practices empowered to do a better job,
get new patients, and involve more families in their practice. Some of our
leaders have dealt with core philosophical principles of life, principles
that have to be honored and followed to move lives and practices to
another level.
We have also seen weekend boot camps that allow chiropractors to
reflect internally and decide what it is they really want, what is holding
them back from getting what they want, and by the end of the camp make
decisions regarding what they are going to do to create the changes they
need to make.
These are all great leaps forward for the doctors in our profession,
and I know I would not be where I am in my personal and professional life
if it wasn't for an abundance of these excellent opportunities to grow.
These leaders need to be commended for their great efforts. We can all
appreciate that these programs, seminars, and boot camps are elements that
need to remain within our profession.
As I try to grow further as a doctor of chiropractic, I feel that we
are on the verge of the next very important step that we need to take, one
that we haven't been able to nail down yet as a profession. One that the
rest of the world is primed to accept and one that chiropractic is primed
to take.
The world is ready to hear about our philosophy, and how chiropractic
can benefit human health. The world is ready to learn that people
everywhere need to have their spines checked if they want a chance at
optimal health. We are now in the position where we can create global
educational programs and the rest of the world is ready to listen. I will
actually go one step further and argue that the rest of the world is
waiting for us to put out this education and to assume our new role of
global acceptance.
This next step needs to be done in a way that we are not only putting
out the education, but we are promoting the unity of our profession at the
same time. It needs to involve programs that are educating the whole world
about the power of innate intelligence and how chiropractic helps this
intelligence to propagate itself throughout the human body.
To be able to execute global educational programs we must allow our
paradigms to grow from only being concerned about our personal practices
to include the profession at large. Too many are concerned about building
their own practices so that they neglect the need to be concerned about
the world's view of our profession.
If any chiropractor wants an extremely strong practice-building
instrument, here it is. The strongest building tool anyone could ever
imagine is one of allowing every person in the world to understand the
power of innate. If we put our creative minds together as a profession,
create these programs, and unite in vast numbers to execute such programs
and educate the world, just imagine the impact we could have.
Imagine the standard in health care being that chiropractic care needs
to be utilized for everyone from the cradle to the coffin in every
society. Imagine TV news items about how autistic children are making
great breakthroughs because of chiropractic, instead of how we can drug
them up. Imagine universities and governments spending millions of dollars
on chiropractic research instead of on more drugs.
Does this sound huge to you? It certainly does to me! However, think of
it this way, which way would you rather have it? I believe the world is
ripe to hear what we have. It's up to us if we want to put it out there.
In fact, it is my opinion that if we do not create these programs, we are
missing a great opportunity. The world is ready for us but are we ready
for it? If we take this next step needed to create a global dominance in
health care, we will certainly reap the benefits.
Some great strides have been gained politically to open the doors for
these programs. Work accomplished by organizations like the WCA and CLA
has moved chiropractic into a powerful position. We cannot just sit and
assume that these programs are going to be developed for us. We as a
profession must create them. We need every doctor out there contributing
and working together in some form to develop them. It is the
responsibility of every one of us if we want to create global dominance in
health care.
