Every day of our lives, we are accomplishing things. Many of the things
we accomplish are simple tasks that we never stop to think much about.
Getting up, showering, dressing, making meals, getting the kids to school,
to the grocery store, working, etc. However, if we evaluate how we
accomplish these routine tasks we can see how to accomplish virtually
anything we want and achieve the success we seek.
1. Dream. Everything starts with a thought. A dream is a
thought without restrictions. The first step to accomplishing anything is
to dream. All improvement whether home improvement or self-improvement
starts with a dream. The key is dream big, and never let anyone negatively
influence your dream. Call on the counsel of a child when making your
dream list.
2. Know your gifts and talents. Everyone has different gifts
and talents. Some people are good at certain things naturally where others
have to work harder at the same thing. You can learn to do anything, but
if you understand your gifts and talents, use them and enhance them, your
ability to accomplish will be easier and greater.
3. Establish your purpose and mission. When you can identify
your purpose and mission, your gifts and talents will have direction. Your
purpose and vision supplies the "why" behind all actions you
take. A sound purpose and vision of giving and serving others will always
lead to accomplishment and result in success because you're naturally
happier and you will continue to attract the right things.
4. Focus on relationships. Establishing strong relationships
comes from giving up selfishness and replacing it with serving and giving.
Relationships are built on trust and faith, and these come from having the
right character, integrity and moral virtue. It boils down to doing what's
right when no one else is looking.
5. Choose what you want to accomplish. After you dream, start
choosing. If you really want something, you have to move from the dream
stage to the choice stage. When you choose you become specific.
6. Prioritize. Once you choose certain things to accomplish,
prioritize based on your values. Values are what is most important to you.
When you prioritize you begin to organize. Organize how you will use your
time, treasures and talents, who will help you, what additional knowledge
or mentoring you will need for each priority.
7. Take action. Nothing can be accomplished without action.
Action applied towards the right purpose, leads to successful results and
a great sense of satisfaction, which is the fuel for more action.
8. Evaluate results. Taking action will always give you a
result. If you're accomplishing your desired result, continue duplicating
the same action. Don't change anything. If you obtain an undesirable
result, evaluate what action needs to be changed. Don't panic or worry.
Just identify what needs to be changed and apply new action. You may need
to change your knowledge or mentoring. If your result is subconsciously
violating your values, you'll sabotage yourself and your goal. You must
satisfy your values, not compete with them.
9. In all situations, be thankful. Remember, there is good in
all circumstances, because we can always learn. Whether good or bad, be
thankful, because the experience will strengthen your character and
integrity. Being thankful is a reflection of humility that leads to
contentment.
Beware of the two poisons of thankfulness and contentment – comparing
and complacency. If you live your life comparing yourself to others you
will never be good enough and never be thankful for what you have. It
equates to an endless spiral of overwork, stress and disruption of
balance. If you become complacent you give up and never think you'll be
good enough so why even try. Your gifts and talents become stale, you lose
site of your purpose and vision and simply exist in apathy. As your
character weakens you can become subject to ways to get ahead that violate
your moral standards.
10. Stay in balance. If you're clear on the previous points,
it's easy to stay in balance. Balance starts with knowing your values
(what's most important to you). If you start to get out of balance, focus
on your values and adjust your actions accordingly. Signs of imbalance are
frustration, anger, stress, fatigue and effort. Keeping balanced with God,
family, work and self will insure your accomplishments and maintain your
happiness along the journey.
11. Never give up. Remember, perseverance builds character and
character builds hope. You never fail until you stop trying. Seek joy
along the path of accomplishment, not at the end of the road.
12. Lastly, believe and you will receive. With faith all things
are possible. If you doubt, you will never accomplish your dreams.
Believing you can do it with faith is CERTAINTY. There is always a way if
you have the commitment.
