Dr. Matthew McCoy joins
WCA Board of Directors
Matthew
McCoy, D.C., editor of the Journal of Vertebral Subluxation Research
and vice president of the Council on Chiropractic Practice (CCP), was
recently unanimously elected as a member of the Board of Directors of the
World Chiropractic Alliance (WCA). Dr. McCoy will fill the seat vacated by
Fred Barge, D.C., Ph.C., who resigned in November.
Dr.
Barge, who serves as a professor of philosophy and special advisor to the
president at Palmer College of Chiropractic, stepped down from the WCA
office, citing his inability to be involved in the group's activities.
"It is against my conscience to be in such a position without the
time to evaluate the actions of the organization," he stated in a
letter to Terry A. Rondberg, D.C., WCA president. "I believe I have
served my time in WCA reorganization and it is time for a new face on the
Board, a person with more time to spend on the involvement that is so
necessary for Board members."
In
accepting his resignation, Dr. Rondberg told Barge, "The fact that
you feel it is against your conscience to hold that position when you do
not have the time to participate fully is a reflection of your integrity
and your commitment to the ideals of the WCA."
Barge
is one of the most admired pioneers in the chiropractic profession, whose
name is virtually synonymous with subluxation‑based chiropractic. He
is a past president of the
ICA
and spearheaded the
successful opposition to a proposed merger with the ACA. A prolific author
of chiropractic and patient education material as well as numerous books,
his texts are used as required curricular texts in many chiropractic
colleges.
"Dr.
Barge's support of the World Chiropractic Alliance was instrumental in our
successful reorganization and in allowing the 'new WCA' to take its
rightful place in the profession," Rondberg stated. "We will
always be honored and grateful for that support. As one of our founding
board members, he will always hold a special place in our history and our
hearts."
Upon
Barge's resignation, the remaining members of the WCA Board of Directors
reviewed the qualifications of several top chiropractic leaders and
unanimously voted to select McCoy for the position.
McCoy
graduated from
Life
College
in 1989 and has
extensive post graduate training in Applied Chiropractic Sciences, spinal
adjusting technique, spinal trauma, treatment and rehabilitation. In
addition, he has post graduate training in Magnetic Resonance Imaging,
Electroneurodiagnostics, Spinal Outcome Assessment, Impairment Rating and
is a Certified Independent Medical Examiner.
A
candidate for Diplomate Status in Applied Chiropractic Science through the
International Chiropractors Association, McCoy is also a consultant for
Vostok 1/North Pacific Corporation and The Regional Center for
Chiropractic "Spine," which is involved in developing a
chiropractic spine treatment, teaching & research center in
Vladivostok
,
Russia
.
In
addition to his duties as vice president of the CCP, McCoy also serves on
its Research Committee. He is a member of the International Chiropractor's
Association, The Council on Applied Chiropractic Science, the Georgia
Council of Chiropractic and the
Academy
of
Upper Cervical
Chiropractic Organizations
.
McCoy
is the recipient of the World Chiropractic Alliance 2002 "Researcher
of the Year" award, and received the WCA "Humanitarian of the
Year" award in 1996.
"We
are extremely pleased and proud to have Dr. McCoy join the WCA
Board," Rondberg said. "All of us are confident that he will
make a unique and valuable contribution to the organization."
