Practicing with a servant heart

submitted by ChiroKeepers

The year 2002 was an interesting one for chiropractors in Canada and America . In talking to chiropractors on both sides of the border, practices and chiropractors have been under stress.

In Canada , our profession was under attack from the medical community. We had a coroner's inquest in Ontario , delisting of chiropractic in British Columbia and battles to maintain the right to adjust children in Manitoba .

In American, there was the aftermath of the tragedy of 9/11, and the loss of wealth from massive corporate fraud.

The results of these events have done several things.

First, they have created fear in the minds of people in North America , and secondly, the public has lost trust in people of authority in general.

Finally, specific attacks on our profession have further eroded the public's confidence in chiropractic.

How has this impacted your practice, and what can you do about it?

Our experience tells us that because of the decrease in trust and confidence, outside advertising like mailers and newspaper ads have been less effective. People are less likely to trust and respond to a written offer. It has also been harder for your patients to convince their family and friends to try chiropractic.

The bottom line is that in many practices, fewer people were willing to give chiropractic a try.

The good news is that some practices continued to thrive and grow. They were adjusting more people and saving more lives than last year.

What is their secret?

This is what we've observed. Doctors with growing practices communicated their vision to their communities. They stood up in front of groups of people in their offices and in the marketplace and explained the principle of chiropractic. They were willing to be vulnerable and transparent and to boldly tell the truth. They were able to regain the trust of their community. They were willing to be leaders for their patients.

At a time when the people were looking for spiritual leadership, these chiropractors were equipped and willing to share their belief in God.

They were able to ally fears and bring love and peace to the minds and hearts of their patients. They successfully integrated their faith into their practice and the people were drawn to them. In spite of all the uncertainty around them, they stood firm and did not waiver.

Most importantly, they were willing to serve more. They practiced the principle of chiropractic with a servant heart. They had God's heart and were able to spread His love when love was hard to find.

So take heart. You have the greatest health principle on the planet and you can grow a servant heart! That is an unstoppable combination! 2003 is a great opportunity to serve more than ever before.
