Parker anatomical sciences passes accreditation review
The Department of
Anatomical Sciences at Parker College of Chiropractic was recently
reaccredited by the Anatomical Board of the State of Texas. The college
received a perfect review of its facilities from the board and has had its
accreditation reaffirmed with the state board for another five years.
According to Dr.
Geraldine Gaik, professor and chair of Parker's Department of Anatomical
Sciences, the state board inspected the campus anatomical facilities July 18
and issued their findings shortly thereafter.
"The accreditation is
vital to Parker College's Gross Anatomy program. It allows students to use
and dissect human cadavers to advance their learning in the anatomical
sciences," said Dr. Gaik, who also serves as a member of the state's
anatomical board.
The anatomy labs have
several special features, including: study book racks allowing students to
easily view notes while working in the lab; state‑of‑the‑art dissection
tanks; mounted and retractable lights with multi‑powered lenses;
hospital‑grade flooring; and more. The outstanding facilities, which have
served as a model for other anatomy labs, are an important aspect that
allows the school to offer a Bachelor of Science degree in anatomy.
Parker College has a
history of receiving outstanding reviews from visiting accrediting agencies.
In February of last year, the Commission on Colleges of the Southern
Association of Colleges and Schools visited the campus. They issued three
commendations, no recommendations, and no suggestions. This rare distinction
means Parker
College surpassed and even exceeded the
requirements set by these regional agencies.
