CBS offers $1,000 scholarships
Chiropractic Benefit
Services (CBS) Risk Purchasing Group has announced the introduction of a new
scholarship program that will provide a $1,000 scholarship each trimester to
a senior at Palmer College of Chiropractic. The scholarship is an
unrestricted grant that can be used toward tuition, books, establishing a
practice, repaying student loans, or in any other way the recipient chooses.
"CBS has always been
proud to invest in chiropractic," said Timothy Feuling, CBS president.
"Since we value our chiropractic students and recognize them as the leaders
of tomorrow, this scholarship is another way for us to help build a strong
and prosperous profession."
CBS is a Risk
Purchasing Group specifically formed to provide risk‑management tools,
including malpractice insurance coverage, to doctors of chiropractic. It
publishes a monthly electronic newsletter ‑‑ available at its website at
www.cbsmalpractice.com ‑‑ with articles on how to avoid lawsuits and
complaints and what to do if you are sued. The newsletter is one of several
malpractice prevention resources the company makes available to all doctors
of chiropractic and chiropractic students.
Since its establishment
in 1989, the CBS‑RPG program has built a reputation for helping to safeguard
and promote subluxation‑based chiropractic, including funding
subluxation‑centered research, public education programs, and the
development of the Council on Chiropractic Practice Guidelines.
The $1,000 CBS
scholarship will be awarded to a different Palmer senior each trimester. The
recipient will be chosen on the basis of a short essay on "the person(s) who
inspired you to become a chiropractor" or "what you hope to contribute to
the profession as a doctor of chiropractic." Financial need will not be a
factor in choosing the scholarship recipient and no questions will be asked
about the student's financial situation.
Mr. Feuling said he is
looking forward to reading the essays and giving away the $1,000 checks and
hopes to expand the program to other schools.
"All of us at CBS feel
strongly that being a part of the chiropractic profession means more than
merely collecting premiums," he said. "Instead, we try to follow B.J.'s
example and do whatever we can to help chiropractic and chiropractors."
CBS recently teamed up
with CNA, the 4th largest commercial insurance organization in the United
States, with more than $60 billion in assets and an "A" rating by AM Best.
The professional liability policy offers professional board dispute defense
coverage up to $30,000, sexual misconduct allegation defense, HIPAA defense
coverage up to $10,000, and other provisions not normally found in
chiropractic malpractice policies.
To apply for the
scholarship, Palmer seniors may submit an essay of no more than 800 words
via e‑mail to feuling@cbsmalpractice.com, or by mail to: CBS Scholarship,
4479 Philbrook Square, San Diego, CA 92130.
