New 'Legacy Scholarship' benefits children of alumni

Sherman College of Straight Chiropractic recently established a "Legacy Scholarship" to benefit new students who are children of Sherman College alumni. Scholarship recipients must be enrolled full‑time and in good academic standing to maintain the $300‑per‑quarter award (a $3,900 value over the 13‑quarter program). The Legacy Scholarship is also made available to children of Pennsylvania College of Straight Chiropractic graduates.

Sherman College Director of Admissions and Scholarship Committee Chair Lisa Hildebrand said establishing a scholarship of this kind has long been a goal for the college.

"We wanted to put an incentive in place for alumni who refer their children to Sherman College," she stated.

First‑quarter student Renee Tocco became the first recipient of the Legacy Scholarship when she enrolled at Sherman College in January 2003. "We're honored and privileged to be the first family to take advantage of this new scholarship," said Renee's father, Sam Tocco, D.C., a 1980 Sherman College graduate. "We're also obviously excited that our first‑born child has decided to pursue a career in chiropractic."

Renee said being raised in the "chiropractic lifestyle" and watching her father practice have convinced her that becoming a chiropractor is the right career choice. "I can see no better way to serve humanity than to become a chiropractor," she explained. "It's amazing what the human body can do when free from vertebral subluxation. This must be the focal point of a chiropractor's career. It will be a great honor to carry on the same values and principles that have made Sherman College so great."
