What is a miracle?
by Dr. Timothy Gay
For as many people who
are on this wonderful planet, there are that many interpretations of what a
miracle is. To some, it's finding a job after more than a year of searching.
To others, it's their child recovering from an illness viewed by most as
terminal. And yet to even more, it could be the joy of a man hitting a home
run during a summer league softball game.
Take a moment and
consider what a miracle looks like. If you experienced a miracle, what would
you feel? Did you even think you were deserving of one? I believe we are all
deserving of miracles. I believe we all have dreams in our hearts and some
of us feel that if those dreams came true, it would be a miracle!
Can we make miracles
happen? Can we "entice" or "encourage" or even "make" our dreams come true?
I believe we can. Do you know how to make your miracle happen?
Our lives can
unfortunately be filled with obstacles. Instead of dwelling on the seeming
futility of watching these "weeds" pop up in your garden, let's give them an
ample spray of faith, brainpower and confidence.
Maybe your familiarity
with weeds is comfortable, but familiarity with the ugliness and
tenaciousness of weeds can eventually breed contempt, as the old saying
goes. Yet, it can also breed complacency, a feeling of desperation or even
inadequacy for allowing them to grow in the first place.
We have a need to stay
in familiarity. Risk is scary and uncomfortable with the end result totally
unknown. But all growth resides outside of our comfort zones. Breaking out
of that comfort zone will create in you a new sphere of experience.
It's said that prayer
requires purity of heart, genuineness, a purity in the "tone" of the
yearning of a prayerful person. Praying without urgency, without faith that
the answers will come, is like making a telephone call with your finger on
the disconnect button.
Is your vision clear?
Are you genuinely authentic? When you perform, how do you feel and what are
the results? Are you feeling "robotic," moving through your day with no more
feeling than that of mere mediocrity? I don't like this state, why should
you?
Think of two words that
define your relationships with your patients, with your staff, with your
spouse or partner, with your extended family. Do they have a positive slant?
Do they reflect your state of mind, how you live your life? It's important
to think about what premise you come from as you process thoughts, as you
greet patients each day.
Is there lots of faith
in your demeanor or are you downtrodden? Contradictions lead to destruction.
You cannot successfully lead your practice while harboring doubts, fears, or
resentment. You must have a clear understanding of how you really feel each
day, of who you are, and it's crucial that you move beyond any negativity
that results from those contradictions. Instead of swirling around in
futility, step beyond the chaos into your dreams ‑‑ and visualize,
visualize, visualize.
Add five percent more
activity and volume to everything you do. Five percent more each day will
add up to 25% more each week and 100% more each month.
Wait for miracles to
happen. Wake up each day and speak to them, tell them how you feel, tell
them you're waiting for them, tell them what you expect. Speak to them aloud
‑‑ show your faith to all who will listen!
And wait for your
miracle to come along.
