'Children's Health Day' program online

When DCs take part in the World Chiropractic Alliance (WCA) Children's Health Day International, they aren't left to figure out how to do it by themselves. The Implementation Manual, developed by the WCA Council on Children's Health, guides them every step of the way, from the first day of planning to post‑event wrap‑up.

"The amount of information doctors receive is incredible," says Joel Miller, DC, chair of the Council and lead author for the Manual. "We have provided instructions, forms, sample letters, and week‑by‑week checklists that cover each task. And the best thing is that these procedures have been used and proven successful."

Dr. Miller is an international speaker on chiropractic pediatrics, and has been in private practice for nearly two decades in Ft. Myers, Florida, specializing in pediatric and family care. He's held many community events for children and has nearly perfected the procedures to follow.

Children's Health Day International, set for Sept. 18, 2004, allow DCs the opportunity to organize and hold a community event that provides information on a wide variety of children's health issues, and showcases the services of DCs and other health care providers.

Similar events Miller has held in the past have attracted hundreds of residents, many of whom were introduced to chiropractic for children for the first time.

"It's sad but true that many parents won't go to a 'chiropractic‑only' event like an open house," Miller explains. "That's why the WCA Children's Health Day International event offers a broad‑based health care approach, covering many current issues of concern to parents like ADHD, asthma, vaccinations, backpack safety, obesity, otitis media and antibiotics. These are the issues they're reading about in magazines, and they need to get accurate information."

At the event, parents will learn about chiropractic as a non‑medical way to enhance a child's health and wellness without drugs.

Doctors who register for Children's Health Day International will receive complete instructions and all materials needed to make the day a success for their offices and community. Included in the program will be all the tools needed to:

*** publicize the events and get coverage in local newspapers ...

*** attract parents and children throughout your area ...

*** form alliances with other health care providers and children's advocates ...

*** win support from state and local government officials ...

*** plan and hold the actual event...

*** get additional post‑event coverage ...

*** position yourself as a children's health "expert" in your community ...

*** convince parents of the benefits of chiropractic for children ‑‑ and add dozens of new patients!

In addition, the Manual includes instructions on holding a successful screening and a pediatrics health history form.

The WCA Children's Health Day International will be held twice each year, on September 18 and May 14. Doctors must register for each event separately.
