New discovery in chiropractic
T&R success 'incredible but true'
"We get relief on the
first visit with most patients, even if they are chronic cases."
That's a pretty strong
claim to make, but Herman Stoffels, D.C., developer of Test & Response
(T&R), says it's not an exaggeration. "The T&R discovery works even when
everything else has failed. It's so amazing and surprising, it's difficult
to believe."
Although it sounds
incredible, numerous D.C.s have become convinced of the accuracy of Dr.
Stoffels' statements thanks to his seminars, which include demonstrations
and hands‑on practice of the system.
It was at one of these
demonstrations that the T&R procedure was performed on a doctor's wife. The
woman, a diabetic since early childhood, reported later that she was able to
drop six units off her normal 24 units of insulin. Similar demonstrations
have turned skeptics into admirers and ‑‑ mainly by word of mouth ‑‑ created
a buzz of excitement throughout the profession.
Originally held only in
Los Angeles, Stoffels recently began offering the seminars in various
locations around the U.S. to meet increasing demand. One T&R seminar, hosted
by James Sigafoose, D.C., was held in Baltimore. Another was held in New
Jersey and others will be scheduled throughout 2004.
It may seem surprising
that Stoffels and his work are generating such a surge of interest today,
considering that he made his basic discoveries in the mid‑1970s. Yet, the
scientific validity of many discoveries of that era are only now being
embraced by modern science as it continues to probe complex concepts such as
quantum physics and unified force theories.
In 1974, when Stoffels
discovered that the body's own natural circulating energy fields interfered
with the clarity of reflex testing methods, the entire notion of energy
fields was little understood and often dismissed as "new age" nonsense.
In the ensuing years,
scientists have made tremendous strides in understanding the bioelectric
systems, and how they relate to human health and wellness. Science and
chiropractic have, it appears, caught up with Stoffels.
Russian scientists have
been in the forefront of this new field of inquiry, he notes. "They have
proved in laboratory experiments that living cells have the capacity to
transmit and receive ‑‑ by some sort of radiation waves ‑‑ information about
themselves to and from other living cells aside from the transmission of the
nervous system."
Stoffels experimented
with a wide variety of positioning and placements of the body and limbs and
found that an entirely new dimension in body response could be realized by a
few unusual but simple modifications in body and extremity positioning. It
was through this that he discovered that the body's natural circulating
energy fields interfered with the clarity and dependability of reflex and
energy field testing. Stoffels emphasizes that, since some of the T&R system
didn't work the way he expected it to, he did not invent or devise it, but
discovered it.
Stoffels explains: "A
simple muscle test could be converted to a test of total body response by
this changed positioning."
When the body assumes
this position, its usual bioelectrical flow is changed and its normal
strength increases, often nearly doubling. This position is the Test &
Response basic testing position, which makes muscle testing much easier and
less tiring for young, old or ill patients. Even for infants, Stoffels
states that the clarity of using a surrogate in testing is unsurpassed and
that the T&R correction for infants has a tremendous advantage.
The application of a
specific weakening stimulus reverses this added strength and creates a state
of unusual weakness in the test.
"With the patient lying
in the T&R position, it is only necessary for the doctor to contact the
segment of the patient's spine that is most intensely reactive and to
perform this simple muscle test to witness the dramatic change in the
patient's energy levels," Stoffels explains. "A contact with this most
reactive spinal segment causes a loss of both the magnified strength of the
T&R position and the normal strength of the body during the test, making a
distinct demarcation between the strength and weakness from this test."
It didn't take long for
his method to prove its benefits.
"The scientific proof
that the energy fields of the body hold an intrinsic relationship with the
innate and with the fundamental subluxation complexes with which
chiropractic has been involved, are being seen in practice," Stoffels notes.
"This astonishing discovery gives great new insights as to why chiropractic
works so well, regardless of which technique is applied."
Not surprisingly, some
doctors thought the results Stoffels reported were "almost too good to be
true." Disappointed by over‑hyped promises in the past, many were reluctant
to adopt or even learn about his system. Stoffels persevered and continued
to present his introductory seminars to small groups of D.C.s, who were
almost unanimously won over after seeing the live demonstrations and being
given the chance to use the procedures themselves at the seminar.
"I'm feeling better and
so are my patients," said one doctor who incorporated the T&R system into
his practice. "It amazes me every day."
Another D.C. noted: "On
just using your general cranial release, one party is breathing 100% better
‑‑ terrific." Yet another told Stoffels that "At this stage of practice ‑‑
34 years ‑‑ I thought I had seen it all. T&R adds a whole new perspective to
my life's work."
Doctors learning the
T&R system are particularly pleased to find out that is compatible with all
types of practices and techniques and doesn't require the purchase of
expensive machines or instruments. They also rave about Stoffels' teaching
ability and obvious sense of commitment.
"I really appreciate
the effort you put forth in bringing us the work you spent your life
developing," praised one doctor who attended a seminar in November 2003. "I
so enjoyed your energy (even at 81!) you put into your delivery."
In 2004, doctors will
have the opportunity to attend the full, three‑day training program and
learn what may be the most important discovery for chiropractic in the 21st
century.
