Sharing our love of chiropractic
by Dr. Rob Schiffman
Last year, I read in
the paper about a woman who was 90 years old, still fired up, who goes deer
hunting. Then there was the story about a 90‑year old man who plays golf
every day. It's his greatest passion ‑‑ besides his wife and children.
I read another article
in the paper about a man who owned a Fortune 500 company. At 97, he still
works in the office. The reporter asked him, "How in the world do you still
do what you do?" The gentleman responded, "They can take this business away
from me, but my principal purpose in life is this business and what this
business does. They can take everything away from me, and I have lost
nothing, but if they take away my principal purpose, I have lost
everything."
What is your
principal love?
Years ago, Dr. BJ
Palmer wrote, "I'm a Chiropractor working with the sciences of the universe
by turning on the light in men to the art of adjustment. I do not prescribe,
treat or diagnose conditions. I use only my hands. I am a Principled
Chiropractor."
Do you remember the
first adjustment you gave when you were a student? You heard the audible and
got so excited! When this happened you were free. You were so in love with
what you were doing. You were fascinated by it. It captured your imagination
and caused you to be jubilant. That feeling should stay with you every day
of your life as a principled chiropractor.
Recall the love that
flowed through you as a chiropractor that day you were given your diploma.
You had worked so hard to become a Doctor of Chiropractic. You had that
diploma in your hand, you saw your name on it, and you knew that you were
finally a DC.
Don't forget that first
adjustment when you opened the doors to your practice for the first time ‑‑
this feeling is the same feeling. The love that flowed through you was
amazing.
This is the feeling and
same love that you need to continually have in your practice.
Don't fall in love with
golf or bowling. Remove all obstacles in your life that take you out of love
with chiropractic. The greatest gift of healing to humankind is that God has
placed you as a shepherd of the principle of healing through the
vehicle of chiropractic. When you really get the understanding of this and
feel it, it is in you constantly, and you are walking in love.
Greater love has no one
than this: for chiropractors to sacrifice or lay down their lives for their
communities. As we do this each day, giving out of our abundance, loving out
of our abundance, serving our abundance, more love comes and we fall in love
with chiropractic again and every day of our lives.
The more love we give
out, the more love that is returned to us. The more we give out, the more we
are able to reach everyone we come in contact with. This is part of walking
in love ‑‑ and sharing our love of chiropractic.
