Three events you can't miss in 2006

Children's
Health Day International
May 13 and September 9

If you care about the children in your community, you won't want to miss the World Chiropractic Alliance's Children's Health Day International (CHDI) events.

CHDI helps position chiropractors as the only major health care providers offering drug‑free children's health care.  This is particularly important at a time when the medical, drug and insurance industries are working to scare parents away from chiropractic.

The program ‑‑ which is fully customizable by participating doctors ‑‑ can cover many different topics such as vaccinations, back pack safety, "Say No to Drugs" programs, otitis media, ADHD and the use of Ritalin, asthma, anti‑smoking campaigns, obesity and, of course, chiropractic and subluxation correction.

Doctors who register for the event receive complete instructions and all materials needed to make the day a success for their offices and community. Included in the program are all the tools needed to publicize and hold the event, including a detailed timeline "task list."

The WCA Children's Health Day International is coordinated by Joel Miller, DC, chairman of the WCA Council on Children's Health and Dave Mager, who developed "Special Edition" versions of his posters, brochures and other patient education and practice promotion material, including an animated, narrated DVD Powerpoint presentation for use during the event.

All events are fundraisers for the Make‑A‑Wish Foundation, which works closely with individual participating doctors to promote the health fair in their areas.

Registration is free to World Chiropractic Alliance members; $99 per event for non‑members.

For more information visit the CHDI website.

WCA International Summit
May 5‑6

The 2006 Summit is gearing up to be the most incredible yet ‑‑ with more speakers and more participants from around the world gathering in Washington, DC to celebrate the marriage of chiropractic art, science and philosophy. Too often, one of these vital elements is sacrificed to the others but the 2006 Summit will showcase the power chiropractic offers when all three are in balance.

The payoff will be tons of valuable and practical information participants can use to build large, prosperous and scientifically based practices. You'll get to see many of the profession's most popular speakers, as well as some fascinating presenters who are exclusive to the WCA Summit! You'll learn the best ways to bullet‑proof your note taking system ... attract patients who are interested in long‑term wellness care ... combat anti‑chiropractic articles in the media ... inform patients of the latest research showing the benefits of chiropractic ... and much more.

One major focus of the event will be how to overcome the perception of chiropractic as "unscientific." We all need to make sure patients and the public realize that chiropractic is based on sound research and that we're working toward expanding our understanding of how subluxations impact all aspects of health and wellness and how chiropractic can help people lead healthier and longer lives.

Plus, you'll be able to spend time in the company of like‑minded doctors who share your passion for subluxation‑based chiropractic. You'll be able to talk openly and fervently about your commitment to BJ's ideals or about what chiropractic really means to you ‑‑ and know that those around you will not only understand, but applaud your convictions!

The Summit will be held at the Marriott at Metro Center in Washington, DC, which recently underwent a $7 million guest room renovation, and offers easy access to Washington's Metro rail system just outside the hotel.

More information, as well as online registration will be available soon at www.worldchiropracticalliance.org.

Chiropractic Coalition Legislative Day
May 4

For the third year in a row, the Chiropractic Coalition ‑‑ made up of the World Chiropractic Alliance, the International Chiropractors Association and the Federation of Straight Chiropractors and Organizations ‑‑ will hold its Legislative Day at the US Capitol. Hundreds of chiropractors and chiropractic advocates from around the world will converge on Capitol Hill to discuss important legislation that can shape the future course of our profession.

Individually and in groups, DCs will meet with their Senators and Representatives to make sure the voice of chiropractic is heard. No longer will they hear only from lobbyists representing the medical and pharmaceutical industries!

In previous years, key legislators have taken part in this incredible day‑long event, including: Sen. Edward Kennedy, ranking member of both the Armed Services Committee and the Health, Education, Labor & Pensions Committee; Senator Orrin Hatch, a senior senator and member of the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee;  Rep. Jeb Bradley of New Hampshire, who serves on the Armed Services, Budget, Veterans' Affairs and Small Business Committees; Sen. George Allen of Virginia, an influential member of the Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee, as well as the Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee; Rep. Bob Filner of California, who introduced a bill to ensure direct access to chiropractors for veterans in the VA system; and Rep. Don Manzullo of Illinois, considered one of the staunchest chiropractic supporters in Congress.

In addition to meeting with individual legislators and key decision makers on the Hill, the Chiropractic Coalition shows the entire Congress that chiropractors can act as a unified and powerful entity; that the subluxation‑centered chiropractic community is large, strong and committed; and that the health and wellness of the global population depends on how chiropractic is included in the world's health care systems.

Participation in the Legislative Day is absolutely free and all doctors are invited to participate, regardless of their organizational affiliations.
