CLA develops new tool for chiropractic analysis

Chiropractic Leadership Alliance (CLA) has developed a new product to enable chiropractors to gain better insight into the function of the nervous system. The Insight Pulse Wave Profiler allows the chiropractor to assess the balance between the sympathetic and parasympathetic divisions of the autonomic nervous system. It also provides an Autonomic Balance Index, which indicates the overall balance of the autonomic nervous system.

According to CLA's CEO Patrick Gentempo, DC, “The Autonomic Balance Index is a powerful breakthrough which has significant implications to the direction of chiropractic practice in the 21st century. Clinically it paints a picture for the chiropractor of the general state of a person's autonomic balance, as compared to a picture of something that seems to solely reflect the spine. This breaks the mold of a consciousness that has pigeon‑holed this profession for over a hundred years. Now the chiropractor and patient can focus on whole body effects of chiropractic care. Overall autonomic balance can be expressed in a single number. Both doctor and patient can see the effect of chiropractic care in a whole new, powerful, and compelling light.”

The proprietary (patent pending) technology incorporates a pulse wave sensor, and stress sensors. The data collection is automated‑‑the patient simply places the fingers of one hand on a sensor. The information collected analyzes heart rate variability‑‑an accepted method of autonomic assessment, while checking for arousal responses which can affect the validity of readings.

“Independent research has demonstrated both short‑term and long‑term changes in heart rate variability following chiropractic care,” stated Christopher Kent, D.C., CLA Co‑Founder and Director of Research. “This technology has tremendous potential,” Kent continued. “We now have a way to look at the rhythms of the nervous system, and the communication between the brain and the heart. Our unique hardware and software allows the identification of emotional arousals, movement artifacts, and other factors that could affect the validity of readings.”

The Pulse Wave Profiler module is available as an add‑on to many existing Insight Subluxation Stations, and is an option on all new Insight systems. A stand‑alone unit is also under development. To contact CLA go call 800‑285‑2001 or go to www.subluxation.com.
