"Baron Harvest," by Peter Lind, DC ‑‑ J.D. Publishing, Salem, OR. $11.95; ISBN 0‑3760617‑0‑8. www.baronharvest.com

Already enjoying positive critical review, this thriller may catapult Salem, Oregon chiropractor Peter Lind into literary fame. Although self‑published, this book "is as good as many of the books being issued by major publishers," said Dan Hays, book reviewer for the Salem StatesmanJournal.

"It is bright, inventive, written with active wit and sucks the reader in. It involves genetic engineering and academic intrigue and all sorts of thrilling things... Lind is a chiropractor, but he sure can write."

According to the publisher, the book is a "non‑stop thriller taken from today's headlines and placed into a multi‑layered story which effects every person on the planet today." With the focus on the dubious "benefits" of genetic engineered foods, "Baron Harvest" explores the shady dealings between government agencies, medical professionals, and megacorporations.

Dr. Lind was drawn to the topic of genetic engineering through his study of nutrition and based the story on well‑documented research. "When it comes to genetic engineering, we may only be able to see the tip of a tremendously dangerous iceberg on the hazy horizon of our future. 'Improvements' to our food supply, once thought of as miracles, have already begun to effect lives around the globe," he warns.

The book may be purchased at www.baronharvest.com (for a discounted price of $9.95).

"Between Heaven and a Hard Place," by Stew Bittman, DC ‑‑ Lionhearted Publishing, Inc., Zephyr Cove, NV, $19.99 ISBN: 1‑57343‑060‑9

The author describes his book as "a collection of reflections and observations about my journey in chiropractic, i.e., my journey to Innate. It is about living according to the principle of chiropractic, and the apparent paradoxes that arise on that both."

To readers, it is apparently more than just the ramblings of a man about his own life ‑‑ it's full of lessons and wisdom that can help others improve their own. The book, which has been rated 4 1/2 out of 5 stars at amazon.com, was called "A fun ride ‑‑ filled with humor and heart" by one amazon reviewer, who noted that

"through his own experiences, he shares with us how to take the fear out of examining our own issues of self‑sabotage."

Dr. Bittman's own practice is a strong testimonial to his unusual approach to chiropractic and life. His Lake Tahoe "Safe Haven Chiropractic" center incorporates a donation‑only system which, he says, "(allows) all to achieve wellness."

The book can be purchased at local bookstores, through amazon.com, or through the publisher's website at www.lionhearted.com/heaven.htm (also available in .pdf format for $15.)
