March 2006

Even the youngest members of the community of San Felipe received care
from chiropractors during a mission organized by Brian Rohowits, DC, and his
wife, Eva Sepulveda, a registered nutritionist.
California DCs bring chiropractic to Mexico
On Thanksgiving Day
2005, four San Diego chiropractors and a support staff of seven arrived in
Mexico in preparation for a chiropractic mission to the people of the
community of San Felipe,
BC. They brought with them more than 200 pounds of clothing, which was
delivered to the Desarrollo Integral Familiar (DIF), an organization that
helps under privileged Mexican families.
On Friday and Saturday,
November 25‑26, at the DIF headquarters, the chiropractors adjusted over 400
of the community's people, who ranged in age from five months to over 100
years. Recipients learned the basic tenet of chiropractic philosophy, that
the nervous system is the master system of the body, which controls the
function of everything. It was explained to them that the adjustment they
would receive would remove interference from the nerve system, enabling
their bodies to function at fullest potential. After their adjustments, they
were told, "Ahora tienes mas vida," which means "now you have more life."
The trip was organized
by Dr. Brian Rohowits and his wife, Eva Sepulveda, a registered dietician.
True to Dr. Rohowits' large vision for chiropractic, they had previously
organized other missions to Tecate, and
San Quintin,
Mexico. As Rohowits explained, "It's not only my purpose to bring better
health through chiropractic to my family and community, but my mission is no
less than to bring chiropractic to every corner of the earth. I have much
work to do."
The chiropractors are
all members of the San Diego‑based group known as Chiropractors on the Road
to Excellence (CORE). Other participating DCs were Terry Riley, Roger
Martinez, and Chris Seeley. Besides Ms. Serpulveda, the support staff
included Rose San Pedro, a registered nurse and Rico Caveglia, a personal
trainer and nutritionist. Their expertise was utilized on a case‑by‑case
basis. Also assisting were Al Moscoso, translator; Jamie‑Sue Fernandez;
chiropractic assistant; and Paul Jackson, liaison for the Optimist Club.
Donovann Ang photographed the event.
Smiles on participants'
faces offered a clear sign that their efforts had been well‑received.
Everyone seemed to derive special enjoyment from the power of the mission.
Explained Dr. Riley, "I felt like I touched a lot of people's lives, people
who wouldn't normally have had the ability to experience the power of
chiropractic." Dr. Seeley's life was touched as well. "I feel a deeper
commitment to chiropractic since the mission," he said.
The DCs and staff
greatly appreciated the financial assistance they received for the mission,
which was partially funded by generous contributions from the Kensington
Optimist Club and CORE, as well as chiropractic practice members from San
Diego.
