Obituary

George Patrick Foran, DC ‑‑ 1936‑2006

Dr. Foran, 70, a 1959 graduate of Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College died September 19, 2006, at his home in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Born in Vancouver in 1936,

Until earlier this year, Foran practiced upper cervical chiropractic in Vancouver, with his son Michael joining him in 1994. A guest lecturer at CMCC and a member of the Governors Club, Foran served on the editorial board of the Canadian Chiropractor magazine. His appearance on the Lifetime Television Network Series' "The Alternative Medicine Show" along with his articles on the NUCCA technique and web site made him known as the "neckdr" as his car license plate read.

Foran was a past member of the board of directors of the British Columbia Chiropractic Association, the National Upper Cervical Chiropractic Association (NUCCA), past president of the Greater Vancouver Chiropractic Society, Past Panel Member for Foundation for Chiropractic Education and Research (FCER), and Past Advisory Committee Vancouver‑Richmond Regional Health Board.

He served on the board of directors of National Upper Cervical Chiropractic Research Association (NUCCRA) as well as the British Columbia Assembly Representative for the (ICA) International Chiropractors Association.

In the summer of 2005, Foran spent two weeks working in Quito, Ecuador to provide chiropractic adjustments at a local hospital and children's camp. In September of that year, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the NUCCA.

Known as a man dedicated to his church, family, patients and the chiropractic profession, he is survived by his 9 children and predeceased by Louise, his wife of 50 years.

"It was my pleasure to become acquainted with Dr. Foran through several professional activities in the chiropractic profession," stated Gerard Clum, DC, president of Life Chiropractic College West. "After we met, I felt like I had found a lifelong friend. Whenever we would meet it was always an exciting time for me, a chance to spend some time with a man who loved his career, his profession and the patients her served... The chiropractic profession has lost a great person, his patients have lost a great chiropractor and humankind is diminished by his passing. I will miss him very much."

Longtime friend and colleague Adrian Grice shared her own fond memories of the well‑liked chiropractic leader. "We look back 50 years as if it was a few months ago and remember Pat as the tall smiling, friendly, affable classmate, who was always where the action was... Pat was a diligent and critical thinker and many a heated but friendly discussion took place around him. He questioned his friends and teachers alike but along the way he became most dedicated to the principles of chiropractic.

Laurent Goldstein, president of Brican Corporation and one of Foran's patients, noted, "The chiropractic profession has lost one of its few remaining true heroes. I have known Dr. Pat for the last 15 years and I can still feel his quiet but powerful presence around me. I still cannot come to the realization that he is gone. I will miss him... But what struck me the most maybe as far as his unwavering and everlasting dedication and love for his work was to see him in Dallas at the last NUCCA convention. Dr. Pat was sitting in the front row of the room where the lectures were happening, totally engaged, still eager to learn to try be a better chiropractor, after all these years."
