Oklahaven celebrates 45th anniversary

Oklahaven began in 1962 as the vision of six chiropractors to meet the needs of chronically ill children, many of whom were paralyzed, in braces, and wheelchair‑bound, who ultimately found the health through chiropractic.

The founders relied on the generosity of other colleagues, friends, and the private sector, who shared their understanding of a natural drug‑free, healthy lifestyle for children, thus creating a 501(C)(3) nonprofit organization.

Oklahaven has continued to operate for over 45 years through private donations without federal, state, or United Way funds.

In 1977, Bobby Doscher, DC, a graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa, accepted the position to run the center and became the Chief Executive Officer in 1979.

Under her guidance, and with the able service of the Board of Directors, Oklahaven has continued to focus its mission and expand its outreach: restoring children's health in a natural way and telling the chiropractic story throughout the world.

In addition to treating neurologically disorganized and damaged children, Oklahaven reaches out nationally and internationally through journal articles, lectures, and seminars on the chiropractic premise and the effectiveness of chiropractic for children.

Dr. Doscher is frequently asked to share the success stories of the center at national and international conferences, as well as one‑on‑one with professionals. Oklahaven's Parent Support Group works in the community to educate families on the importance of a natural lifestyle.

"Oklahaven is grateful for the generosity of people from around the world who see the need and share our vision of happy, healthy, drug‑free children," Doscher said.
