Have you RPM'd your practice lately?
by Dr. Mike Reid
Ever asked yourself why
some doctors have an incredibly busy practice, while others, no matter how
hard they try, can never seem to get it off the ground?
Most, if not all
coaches have noticed that there is a "special something" that can make or
break success. A secret that few possess and many are slowly discovering.
It's not necessarily a new marketing technique or an education system. It's
not an adjusting technique, nor a retention vehicle. This little‑known
secret is currently being used by big business, Fortune 500 companies and
even small mom and pop shops.
This technique is the
same tool that gets me up at 5:00 am every morning to run both a busy
high‑volume practice as well as a coaching program. It's called the RPM. RPM
simply stands for Results (the what you want), the Purpose (the why you want
it), and the Massive Action steps (the how) to get you there.
RPM is credited to its
developer, Anthony Robbins, who has taught it to thousands of people
including myself and it has helped businesses boom to unforeseen levels of
prosperity. Every time I use RPM with
my practice or my coaching, we grow to another new height.
In "Seven Habits of
Highly Effective People," Steven Covey teaches us to always think with the
end in mind. Similarly, when I coach my doctors to build the practice
they've always dreamed of, we always start with the end and work it
backwards.
Here's how it works.
Take out a piece of
paper and draw two lines down the middle, to give you three equal columns.
Across the top, write in the titles: "Massive Action" (How), "Results"
(What), and "Purpose" (Why). Start in the middle column first with the
results that you would absolutely love to have in your practice. Perhaps it
is to adjust 1,000 people per week, or to have a 100% cash‑based practice.
Maybe you would love less staff, or even a new office. Whatever your wish
is, first write it down and be specific with a timeline...a specific date
that you feel is realistic and attainable.
Scribble down as many
desires for your dream practice as possible. Don't limit yourself! The
universe is yours for the taking. Go for it!
The next step is the
most important and is surely the catalyst for massive change in whatever it
is that you are RPMing.
In the third column,
under "Purpose," you must first ask yourself exactly why you want it. Here's
a hint. Get yourself into an emotional state, a state where the 'why' will
literally get your juices flowing and quite possibly bring tears to your
eyes. By being "in state," your true desires are not only revealed, but you
begin to use the little‑known secret of the law of attraction ‑‑ a universal
law that will help you fill up the first column, the column of "Massive
Action" (the How). Write as many "Purposes"/Why as possible. Again, don't
hold back. If that page is filled, then start a second. Don't stop until you
literally collapse!
The last column to fill
is the first column on the left. It's saved for last because when the "Why"
becomes strong enough, the "How" will actually take care of itself. It may
not even happen that day. You may be in the shower or driving when "Massive
Action" steps start pouring in, so that the results you want now become a
very distinct reality.
My clients and other
successful entrepreneurs are using this RPM
technique to build their empires. I challenge you to try this technique
today for a better tomorrow.
