ABCA holds national convention
The American Black
Chiropractic Association (ABCA) will hold its annual national convention
during the Labor Day weekend, August 28-31, in Houston, at the Hotel Derek
located across from the Galleria Mall. The meeting will offer workshops,
vendor booths, CE credit and an opportunity for social and professional
exchange between members and guests.
The ABCA was formed in
1982 by Bobby Westbrook, DC, of St. Louis to provide support for
African-American chiropractors and chiropractic students.
"Some may not
understand why this is organization is needed, but we all have different
cultural needs and at that time ... it was clear that African-American
students needed additional support to assist with not only educational, but
cultural challenges that come with being a underrepresented group," the
organization explains.
The ABCA also
incorporates the Student American Black Chiropractic Association, which has
student chapters at most chiropractic colleges and offers scholarships that
are awarded during the convention.
