Vincent Malba, DC, during the New York marathon

DC runs marathon for Oklahaven

Vincent Malba, DC, realized his life-long dream by running the prestigious New York Marathon on November 2, 2008. He'd been in training since February to get ready for the 26.2 mile run through all five boroughs of New York City.

He accomplished the incredible feat in 4 hours, 17 minutes, 21 seconds -- and carried Oklahaven Children's Chiropractic Center on his back the entire time! His running shirt was emblazoned with the Center's logo and was seen by thousands of other runners and spectators during the marathon. He not only helped raise funds for the Center but, at the same time, promoted chiropractic for children and a wellness-based lifestyle.

"Oklahaven commends Dr. Malba's discipline and excitement to run with Oklahaven on his back and share Oklahaven Children's Chiropractic Center's vision of returning children to health and a natural, drug-free lifestyle they deserve," said Oklahaven President Bobby Doscher, DC.

Oklahaven was founded in 1962, in response to the needs of chronically ill children, many of whom were paralyzed with polio, in braces and wheelchair bound. The founders chose to provide chiropractic care through a non profit organization. They relied on those in the private sector who shared their vision of natural, drug free health care and other colleagues to donate their services. Oklahaven has continued to operate through private donations without federal, state or United Way funding for 45 years.

In 1979, Bobby Doscher, DC, a graduate of Palmer Chiropractic College in Davenport, Iowa, became the chief executive officer assuming the Center's daily operations.

Many of the children who come to Oklahaven have been given up on by the medical profession, or are enduring an unending cycle of drugs and surgery. At the Center, the children receive regular adjustments and their parents are taught the importance of nutrition and healthy living.

Each Valentine's day, Oklahaven holds a special "Have a Heart" fundraiser. Around the country, doctors get involved and give their patients the opportunity to donate to this worthy cause. To learn more about Oklahaven and its special work, visit its website at www.chiropractic4kids.com.
