New line of nutritional products available

When I graduated from Western States College of Chiropractic and Naturopathy in 1957, the practice of chiropractic was much different than it is today. In many respects, chiropractic has become a recognized part of the health industry. Today, numerous insurance companies are reimbursing patients for chiropractic care and some hospitals have chiropractic practitioners on staff. Now, more than ever, chiropractic is well regarded by the public at large: more than 1.2 billion chiropractic visits were made in 2006!

Still, one issue needs to be addressed by those who are proud to be a chiropractor and who wish this profession establish itself as the prime provider of health care to the public: the nutritional deficiencies and their impact on health and wellness in our society today.

Chiropractors are in a unique position to lead the "alternative" care paradigm being explored by a few "mavericks" in the medical profession. These practitioners are seriously impaired by their years of training and the stringent limitations set by their boards, not to mention the aggressive attacks against chiropractic.

It's also well known that medical practitioners often get their post medical school training through pharmaceutical sales companies that have absolutely no interest in unpatentable nutritionals.

Chiropractic is based on anatomy and physiology, not on the use of toxic chemicals for every ailment. Our education prepared us to work with the healing force within. Our years of extensive study did not include the exploitation of non‑natural poisons that inhibit healing and are known to produce disastrous side effects within the human body.

It is beyond me why the forces that work counter to chiropractic continue to characterize chiropractic as a narrow‑concept, manipulation‑only profession. This fact has always anguished me and continues to do so today.

We chiropractors took the same anatomy, physiology, biology, basic chemistry, biochemistry, neurology, pathology and lab science courses that general medical practitioners took. We devoted just as many hours to education and we completed many hours over and above what is required of medical general practitioners, making us qualified to treat the human body with natural remedies.

Not only in the U.S., but all over the world, we need to provide the nutritional help that the medical industry fails to provide. Some have said to me that this would be an emulation of the "pill pushers" we denounce.

Let me answer this by saying, "Every bit of biological science indicates that a person's health is primarily governed by what he or she consumes as food."

Many of us have seen the patient who could not hold an adjustment for two hours because the body lacked proper nutrients to strengthen the supportive tissues. Nutrition and herbs are natural support mechanisms for the body and do not create toxicity or inhibit normal function. Just the opposite; they remove toxicity and stimulate normal function.
