New books hit shelves

Two new books by chiropractors were released recently, one a first-time effort directed at the public and the other a guide to marketing for practicing DCs written by a well-known chiropractic author.

Perry Wolk-Weiss, DC, added "author" to his credentials with his book, "Ten Commandments for a Healthy Lifestyle," a concise review of 10 top "commandments" for healthy living. It contains ideas on exercise, nutrition, stress management and spirituality that he says are important to our health and well-being.

Beginning with the first commandment, "Thou Shall Breathe" and ending with the tenth, "Thou Shall Remain Flexible," Dr. Wolk-Weiss lays down the specific steps to help readers create a healthier lifestyle. Each commandment is written from a holistic point of view and is filled with simple concepts you can immediately implement into your life to initiate the process of change.

Commandment IX, "Thou Shalt Nurture Thy Nervous System," is of particular interest to chiropractic patients and contains a lucid explanation of subluxations and the need for chiropractic care. "Creating a wellness oriented practice is not just about changing the office space. It is also about changing peoples thinking about how they take care of their bodies," Wolk-Weiss notes. "Wellness begins with a shift in attitude about how people live their lives."

Wolk-Weiss has run a family wellness-oriented practice for 28 years in Bound Brook, NJ and is a Diplomate of the American Chiropractic board of Occupational Health, a Member of American Chiropractic Society and NJ Chiropractic Society, and a professional speaker and consultant to corporations and community groups.

The second book, "Chiropractic Marketing Tools That Will Absolutely Grow Your Practice" is by best-selling chiropractic author and Sherman College faculty member John Reizer, DC, and was released nationwide by Lulu Press on Sept. 18, the 113th birthday of the chiropractic profession.

Dr. Reizer, who has authored four best-selling books on the subject of chiropractic, says his goal with this newest publication is to help doctors in the chiropractic profession who struggle with promoting their businesses.

"This book's purpose is to help chiropractors properly market their professional services to prospective patients," Reizer explains. "Whether a doctor has been practicing for many years or has just opened his or her doors, it is imperative that the practitioner learn how to package and present professional services to potential patients. Chiropractors offer important services to healthcare consumers, and I want to make sure that the members of our society are constantly reminded of the value of such services."

In his book, Reizer provides a step-by-step guide for readers on how to successfully implement the most cost-effective marketing tools in the modern chiropractic office.

Reizer is a 1986 magna cum laude graduate of Sherman College of Straight Chiropractic. He has been practicing chiropractor for more than 20 years and is currently an assistant professor of clinical sciences at Sherman. He maintains a private practice in Landrum, SC.
