Will the real chiropractors please stand up?
by Dr. Kevin Pallis and Dr. Ed Plentz
Ask people on the
street what chiropractors do and you'll get a bewildering array of
characterizations, including the most common, "back cracker." DCs are likely
to be linked to everything from spas and weight loss clinics, to GNC
consulting and massage and physical therapy. Why are chiropractors
associated with so many chiropractic-less activities? Have you ever asked
someone what a chiropractor does and he or she replies, "birth to death
family chiropractic"? Or, how about this one... "chiropractic, health for
life"?
Real chiropractors,
please stand up!
When you focus on
anything it tends to become your reality. If we focus our collective
attention on any of those things mentioned above that are not chiropractic,
these are all adult activities. There's no morality of the decision to turn
our collective backs on children... just consequences.
You must have a unique
concept or position because imitation just doesn't cut it. Of all those
activities, there are many besides DCs who can (and do) engage in them.
Where does this leave you and your chiropractic office in the future?
There's a universal truth that states how a society responds to the needs of
its children reflects its collective consciousness. A society that doesn't
invest everything it has in its children will perish. As a profession,
turning our collective attention away from the next generation will have
disastrous consequences.
Answering practice
members' musculoskeletal needs only will reinforce the notion that we are
exclusively adult specialists. We must exceed practice
members' expectations. Just meeting them will get us replaced easily.
Look at the covers of
Newsweek and Time. They feature children's and adult health
issues for which people are desperately seeking help. You will rise in
importance and income when you are urgently connected to the next
generation. Concerned parents don't care what technique you use. They don't
care what initials are next to your name. They want to feel hope.
They want to trust in you, to believe again. Today's parents are running
scared. There has never been a better time to be a family DC.
So many recent
chiropractic college graduates have been let down by the mistaken notion
that they need to be all things to all people. Their mantra seems to be:
"Children are somewhat important. However, I am more interested in my
fiscal reality." The reality is, you will make exponentially more focusing
on the entire family. Would you sacrifice who you are to make a
living?
Where are the real DCs?
As chiropractors, our
primary focus is on the effects of the nerve system in health and disease.
If we stop trying to be everything to everyone, we'll carve out an identity
we can all be proud of.
Just imagine how
effective foods will be, absorbed and put to good use if the nerve system is
working properly. Allow people who spend four or more years of college study
in nutrition to be passionate about food issues. Leave the nerve system to
DCs. Healthy people make better food selections.
Do healthy people have
to be reminded about exercise? They have an innate connection to motion.
It's as silly as thinking you have to teach a child how to play at a
playground.
A generalist is not as
sought after and in demand as a specialist. Concentrate on the nerve system
in health and disease for the entire family and watch what happens to your
practice.
In the Renaissance
paradigm we have an expression, "You are either above the line or below the
line." It refers to your resonation or frequency. People who are
interconnected to people have high resonations. Those who are only
interested in self-gain have low resonations. There are quantum studies
proving that the morphology of your actual brain tissue is affected by your
resonation.
Think of a depressed
person and you'll understand. The brains of depressed individuals are
sluggish and have dark negative thoughts. Their muscles are sluggish and low
energy. They don't embrace and accept new ideas. They hunker down in the
dark self-imposed prison of their mind.
Take it a step further
and think of a criminal. Imagine the leap of faith it would take thinking
that vitamins and better food selection would change his or her resonation.
They can't and they don't. Resonation is an inside job, not outside-in. A
well-nourished criminal would merely accomplish bigger, uglier criminal
acts.
The resonation of the
brain and entire nerve system sets the tone for the quality of the
individual. Humanity is resonation, wavelength or frequency on the inside.
Things we do from the outside are all secondary measures that assist a
compromised nerve system. Stand up and be recognized and accepted for what
you are, not what you're pretending to be.
If you're a real
chiropractor ... STAND UP!
