A message we all need to hear

You can tell so much about a concept, organization, group, etc. when it runs into the shoals of adversity and challenge. Will it keep its course? Will it compromise and lower itself to the common denominator of survival to earn an income? Many in our profession have lost the true identity of chiropractic. The end result of this lost identity has been a mad scramble to find ways of insurance-backed services to allow DCs to make a living.

We have a paradigm of true health -- not disease -- to share with humanity. Instead we continue to cling to the old worn-out medical paradigm characterized by problems, deficiency (what's missing in a practice), self-interest and entitlement (someone else is responsible). Let's discuss each one of these defining concepts of a fading, outdated model that produces more illness than it supposedly corrects.

Why would you want to define your life or practice by its problems or deficiencies? Remember, what you focus on becomes your reality. As long as you put self-interest before a connection to others, you will continue to hold on to a non-humanistic view of income over humanity. The third factor is entitlement, someone else being responsible for solving your problems. At Renaissance we have nothing for or against third party reimbursement. We accept third party pay, however we are not dependent on it or addicted to it.

The new paradigm of humanity is one of possibility, interconnectedness and self-accountability. What kind of families, communities and environment can be created if people are healthier? While there's so much talk today about being "green," a change in consciousness comes before environmental soundness. If we were truly healthy, we wouldn't pollute the environment. All the use of paper instead of plastic, all the recycling won't change anything as long as consciousness is still at a very low resonation that includes conflict, problems, violence, self-interest and domination over others.

As chiropractors, the hub of our message is and always will be the nerve system in health and disease. We understand there are many spokes radiating from the hub, however we are the only doctors trained to remove interference from nerve systems. Is the hub of your office correction of VSC in children and adults? Sadly, we are seeing more spokes emanating from the hub that either de-emphasize adjustments or turn their backs on children. Rehabilitation, golf swing analysis, spa, laser, and GNC stores are a few of the spokes that emanate from the hub. What does rehabilitation have to do with a child's brain developing properly?

Children are left out of today's health arena. A society will stay or perish based on its commitment to the next generation. We have a saying, "the next generation comes first." Just recently, for the first time in history children are being placed on cholesterol drugs to battle obesity. Further proof the world is looking for answers to their health problems.

If you look at the covers of Time, Newsweek, etc., you see autism, allergies, asthma, anxiety and we aren't even out of the "A's." All of these have to do with the brain and nerve system as every scientist agrees. Parents are desperately searching for answers to their children's health challenges. Even if you are only into self-interest, you have to understand that doctors who see to a child's needs will be the most recognized and appreciated of all doctors. Call it "enlightened" self-interest. Start focusing on families and educating parents and watch what happens to your office and your community.

Parents are extremely loyal and committed to DCs who have their family's needs in front of their own. When educated parents understand the role of the nerve system in health and disease, they find a way to get chiropractic care -- with or without insurance. Health-oriented individuals are everywhere on the planet. It's so much more powerful than being a low back doctor.

The many income-producing activities available today make it easy to be seduced away from chiropractic and into the latest fad of public acceptance. Quantum scientists insist that a group of high resonating humanitarians will offset the negativity of millions of others who are willing to give up their identity to be accepted in the old paradigm.
