Making connections by Dr. Ogi Ressel

Let's have a good yak about something we all talk about, discuss with each other at seminars and conventions, and generally accept as part of chiropractic, but (there's always one of those) from my perspective, have little understanding of: INNATE.

I was listening to Dr. Wayne Dyer on PBS recently. I believe that either he once was a chiropractor in a past life, or he's very much connected to Innate in a way most of us would like to be -- and should be. That's probably why he's a frequent speaker at chiropractic seminars and gatherings. He framed an observation in his children's bedroom which was read by all his kids every morning:

Good Morning,
This is God.
I will be handling
ALL of your
Problems today.
I will not need
Your help, so have
A miraculous day.

Awesome!

The problem is, as we go through life our experiences often cause us to become disassociated from the Innate of which we really all are a very intimate part. Our hunger for success, "things," "stuff," survival, etc., tends to overshadow the fact that we're all very much connected to a higher power and resonate at a higher frequency... something we all forget.

We become disconnected, and as a result we become unhappy, dissatisfied, angry, selfish, self-centered, power-hungry, feel lost, unappreciated, a victim, etc. The list truly is huge.

One thing we need to remember is that joy and happiness are our natural states. If you aren't experiencing these, you aren't connected to your Innate power. It's as simple as that!

Look at babies. They've done nothing to be so joyful about. They don't drive the latest Porsche, own the largest house, have a yacht, own part of a golf club or keep a winter home in the Caribbean. They also don't have a practice -- they don't even see a single patient! No new patients at all! Zip. Nada. Zilch.

Babies don't work. They poop in their pants and someone cleans it up (nice life). They have no goals other than to expand, grow and experience this wondrous world. They love everyone. They're completely entertained by an empty plastic bottle or a set of keys or goofy faces and they're in a perpetual state of love and affection.

What's more, they have no hair -- they're bald! They've got no teeth, they're pudgy... and they're flatulent. Yet, they're always happy, joyful and easily pleased.

Why? They're connected to their Innate and experience no resistance to being in a state of joy.

So, like the baby you once were, you don't need a reason to be happy your desire to be so is sufficient.

Many of us "lose it" though. We become so preoccupied with "crap" and stuff that we lose sight of our Innate connection -- that connection which is our essence, and that's when things seem to go wrong.

Here's what I'd like to suggest for you to do to get started on becoming reconnected with the power of the Universe.

First, decide that what you do as a chiropractor is a hobby. I like that! Your life is with your family, your hobby is chiropractic. This perspective reduces tons of stress you may be experiencing.

Next, spend a little time holding a baby. Look into his or her eyes and see the love that lives there. Connect with it. Let go of all your other "pressures" and just be there, just experience. You don't need to say a word. The baby will totally understand. And so will you if you listen hard enough. Where can you get a baby? Borrow one, rent one (I'm teasing), but spend a little time with one. You'll be glad you did.
